Holidays On The River

Come one, come all! It’s finally time for Holidays on the River at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater. The annual holiday event runs through Jan. 20, and admission is free. You will have to pay to ice skate and take carriage rides, though. The daily skate pass is $15, but you can save by getting the season pass for $85. That will cover your skate rentals and ice time for the entire season. Also, carriage rides are $10 a person, although children three and under can ride for free as long as they’re on a lap.

Ice Skating at Holidays on the River

Ice skating is the main event at Holidays on the River. The ice rink is continually bustling with people of all ages trying out their moves. Are you worried about hitting the ice? Take skate lessons on Dec. 4, 11, or 18. You’ll learn some steps that you can use out on the rink.

Carriage Rides

The carriage rides are extremely popular at Holidays on the River. You can hop on a carriage with another family or book an entire carriage for your crew. The rides take approximately 20-30 minutes, and you will go on quite a journey. Your transport will travel down the River Walk and then take you through the Tinsel Trail, where you will see gorgeously decorated Christmas trees. After a trip through the River Market, you’ll hit the Tinsel Trail once again before making your way back to the amphitheater. During the ride, you’ll enjoy amazing sights while listening to Christmas music. Don’t worry about getting chilly. Blankets are provided for guests.

Theme Nights

This year, Holidays on the River will also have theme nights. For example, Tacky Sweater Night is on Dec. 19. Throw on your tackiest holiday sweater to get in on the fun. Are you more of a pajama person? Join the PJ Party on Dec. 26. These are just two of the countless theme nights available this year.

Here Comes Santa Claus

It’s not Christmas without Santa, right? Santa will make several appearances this year. Stop by at 1 p.m. on Saturdays or Sundays to see the big guy. Just remember, he won’t be there after Dec. 25. He has to go back to the North Pole for some rest after the busy holiday season.
