The Hyundai Tucson is a relatively new model in the Hyundai lineup, only being offered since 2005. It is based on a platform reminiscent of the Elantra, as the two models are similar in size. The Tucson was designed to be versatile and stylish, and has always been available with a choice of front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The original Tucson ran on either a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder or a 2.7-liter V6 engine with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed Shiftronic automatic. As a Hyundai, the Tucson has always given drivers extensive features as standard, including 16-inch wheels, six speakers, electronic stability control, traction control, four-wheel disc brakes, and air conditioning. In 2006, the Limited trim arrived with standard leather seating. SiriusXM Satellite Radio showed up in 2008 as a standard feature, while fuel economy improved the following year.
The 2010 Hyundai Tucson began the second generation, showing off the Fluidic Sculpture design language. This Tucson grew 3.3 inches but lost 61 pounds. It could fit 25.7 to 55.8 cubic feet of cargo depending on whether the seats were folded. The engine lineup also changed, featuring a 176-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder. A 2.0-liter became the base engine in 2011, which is the same year the GL trim was added. The Tucson underwent another extensive refresh in 2014, making Bluetooth® standard and giving drivers direct injection gas engines.
The Tucson is popular for many reasons, some of which include that it is a smaller, premium SUV that comes at a budget-friendly price.
