Key Updates to the 2017 Tucson

You may remember that Hyundai redesigned the Tucson for the 2016 model year. As expected, they only felt they need to make minimal adjustments following a complete redesign. For 2016, the Tucson was given an available turbocharged engine, a longer list of available safety features, and updated styling.

Given those changes, the 2017 Hyundai Tucson only adds a few features. The big news is that Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now available on the Tucson, although they do require that you to opt for the Limited model. This same Tucson Limited now has a 315-watt audio system from Infinity, another new feature that audiophiles will approve of.

The more affordable trim levels on the 2017 Tucson are not without their own changes. Now all cloth interiors have the YES Essentials cloth upholstery mentioned above that resists stains and odors. For the previous model year, you could only get this type of upholstery if the interior was black or gray. The best features of the previous Tucson models continue, as the numerous storage bins that spread throughout the cabin all the way to the available automatic liftgate, and the dual-level floor within the cargo area. Read more.

Get Up to Speed on the Hyundai Tucson History

The Hyundai Tucson is a relatively new model in the Hyundai lineup, only being offered since 2005. It is based on a platform reminiscent of the Elantra, as the two models are similar in size. The Tucson was designed to be versatile and stylish, and has always been available with a choice of front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The original Tucson ran on either a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder or a 2.7-liter V6 engine with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed Shiftronic automatic. As a Hyundai, the Tucson has always given drivers extensive features as standard, including 16-inch wheels, six speakers, electronic stability control, traction control, four-wheel disc brakes, and air conditioning. In 2006, the Limited trim arrived with standard leather seating. SiriusXM Satellite Radio showed up in 2008 as a standard feature, while fuel economy improved the following year.

The 2010 Hyundai Tucson began the second generation, showing off the Fluidic Sculpture design language. This Tucson grew 3.3 inches but lost 61 pounds. It could fit 25.7 to 55.8 cubic feet of cargo depending on whether the seats were folded. The engine lineup also changed, featuring a 176-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder. A 2.0-liter became the base engine in 2011, which is the same year the GL trim was added. The Tucson underwent another extensive refresh in 2014, making Bluetooth® standard and giving drivers direct injection gas engines.
