Freshly redesigned for the latest model year, the 2021 Hyundai Elantra is a standout in its class. This compact car excels in all the right ways, from its bold and athletic exterior to its feature-packed, comfort-oriented cabin. The redesign created a lower and wider stance that gives the Elantra more aggressive appeal and more surefooted handling. It also created a boost of interior space that passengers are sure to enjoy. In the cabin, you’ll find premium materials and top-notch technology, enhancing everything from entertainment and connectivity to safety, comfort, and convenience. And with a remarkably fuel-efficient powertrain delivering solid mpg ratings across the board, the Elantra is also a smart choice for those seeking exceptional value in their well-rounded compact car. A newly available hybrid powertrain takes that efficiency to the next level.
The Elantra has the second-longest running nameplate of any Hyundai model. It first became available in the United States as a 1992 model. It arrived as a four-door compact but initially used a Mitsubishi engine. In 1995, the Elantra got a longer wheelbase, and the exterior became more rounded. A wagon body style and new 130-horsepower 1.8-liter engine arrived for 1998. This year, it had a cassette player and dual airbags as standard. For the 1999 model year, there was a more powerful engine and redesigned grille before a complete redesign in 2001. The wagon was replaced by the 2001 Elantra GT. Also by this year, all models came standard with air conditioning, power locks, power windows, and side airbags. The next complete redesign for the Elantra took place in 2007, increasing its interior space.
